Failed to install EGit plugin on Eclipe Helios

I cannot install the Eclipse plugin for Git (EGit) in my Eclipse ( Helios version 2 ).

Tried to install EGit via url in eclipse install new Software: http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates

I get below error:

Installation could not be completed because one or more of the required items could not be found. Installed software: Eclipse EGit 2.2.0.201212191850-r (org.eclipse.egit.feature.group 2.2.0.201212191850-r) No requirement: Eclipse EGit 2.2.0.201212191850-r (org.eclipse.egit.feature.group 2.2.0.201212191850 -r) requires "org.eclipse.core.runtime [3.7.0.4.0.0]", but this could not be found

I tried, but could not establish the dependency mentioned above. So I wonder if Git is supported on Helios. Am I missing something? Thanks.

EGit 2.2 requires Eclipse 3.7 or higher, see "Which versions of Eclipse have an EGit target link?" in the FAQ .

If you do not want to upgrade to Eclipse 3.7 or higher, you can still install EGit 2.1 from the following update site:

http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates-2.1

When I use Helios, I have the same problem, due to the fact that the version cannot be executed, you can try installing it through version 1.0:

http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates-1.0

It works!

PS: Indigo can work with http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates-1.3

Try installing it through the Helios update site:

 http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios/

It should reference all plugins, including EGit.

At the same time, robinst answer (upvoted) indicates a dependence on Indigo (3.7), which may mean that Helios (3.6) is not supported.

I am running Helios Service Release 2 . I tried installing eGit from the Helios website ( http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios ), but I am getting a similar error described in this question. Helios website refers to eGit version 0.11.1 . The error indicates:

requires 'org.maven.ide.eclipse [1.0.0.20110607-2117]', but could not be found

I assumed that this would be due to the m2e plugin that looks like the correct version: Eclipse.org - m2e version 1.0.0.20110607-2117 . Sorry, I cannot update Eclipse. Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem?
