Visual Studio 2010 Professional and Team Foundation Server 2012 Express

I cannot create a new team project from Team Explorer in VS 2010 Profesional due to the error message below:

enter image description here

TF30172: you are trying to create a team project either without the necessary permissions or with an older version of Team Explorer. Contact your project administrator to check your permissions or determine how to update Team Explorer.

I am an administrator in TFS and is a member of the Team Foundation Adminstrators group. What can i do wrong?

In addition, I installed SP1 for VS2010 and KB2662296 Hotfix.

This error message indicates that Team Explorer 2012 is required to create Team Project in Team Foundation Server 2012.

You must install Team Explorer 2012 to create Team Project. If you do not have the installed version of Visual Studio 2012, Team Explorer 2012 will be installed as a separate application that you can use to connect to TFS. This will be installed next to Visual Studio 2010, it will not upgrade your existing installation. As Allen notes in his answer, you can connect to an instance of TFS 2012 from Visual Studio 2010. To create Team Project, you need the appropriate version of Team Explorer .

Yes, you need VS2010 SP1 and the GDR Service Pack for compatibility updates to enable VS2010 to connect to TFS2012. However, Team Explorer comes with VS2010, and all its variants (beta, RTM, SP1) do not support the creation of a Team Project by design.

See Buck Hodges post:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/buckh/archive/2012/03/05/permission-error-with-creating-a-team-project-from-vs-2010-on-tfs-11-beta. aspx

Buck claims that you will need Team Explorer 2012 to create Team Project , but subsequently it's safe to use Team Explorer 2010 for all other purposes . This is an important point.

I confirmed that with this setting you can create Team Project with Team Explorer through the VS2012 shell and then connect to it in VS2010 Team Explorer.

Install VS2010SP1 first and then the gdr compat patch to connect to TFS2012.
