The colored lines on the side of the Visual Studio text editor show lines that have been changed since opening and are not saved (yellow) or saved (green).

This is a convenient way to quickly find out what changes you made to the file at a glance. However, if you want to disable it, you can switch it by going to ToolsOptionsText Editor and uncheck the Track Changes checkbox.

Turn off the "Track Changes" option for the "Text Editor" under Options

This marker saves the changes made to your working directory since the last time you opened the visual studio. I find this feature very useful, especially when working with a team. You can turn them off from the settings if you really hate them, but I would recommend using them because they will save you time in the long run.
