Windows Phone 8 tile does not display the correct image

Does anyone know why my application bar for Windows Phone 8 does not show the icon that I installed? This is what I get (and yes, I'm sure this is not the icon of my application):

enter image description here

This is what I have so far, and I have run out of ideas about what might be wrong:

  • The little icon is png 110x110
  • The environment icon is png 202x202
  • Both images have the line Type = Content
  • Both images have a copy to display property = Copy if new
  • The application icon matches the small icon and it appears in the program list.

Here is part of my application manifest:

<TemplateIconic> <SmallImageURI IsRelative="true" IsResource="false">Assets\Icons\AppIcon_small.png</SmallImageURI> <Count>0</Count> <IconImageURI IsRelative="true" IsResource="false">Assets\Icons\AppIcon_medium.png</IconImageURI> <Title> </Title> <Message> </Message> <BackgroundColor> </BackgroundColor> <HasLarge>false</HasLarge> <LargeContent1> </LargeContent1> <LargeContent2> </LargeContent2> <LargeContent3> </LargeContent3> <DeviceLockImageURI IsRelative="true" IsResource="false"> </DeviceLockImageURI> </TemplateIconic>

If you use the TemplateIconic tile, the images must be transparent icons specified in the Iconic Tile template for Windows Phone 8 , because it just turns a white icon inside the tile. Your image looks like a white square because it has no transparency. With the images you have, you would like to use TemplateFlip tiles and adjust the size of your tiles accordingly.

I had the same problem. After a lot of brainstorming, I tried it and helped it work!

Make sure that the installed image has a white (or other) background color. If you have, remove the background from the image using Photoshop (Tool: magic eraser) and keep the background transparent.

Replace this transparent background image and it will appear in the emulator!

Hope this works at the end of cheers! :)

Have you seen the manifest file? You can select images in this file. I mean using the user interface in the studio, open the manifest file and select the image.

According to the Iconic Tile size information in the Iconic Tile template for Windows Phone 8, the icon of the small icon and icon should be made with a transparent background.

  • The little icon is png 70x110
  • The environment icon is png 130x202

If you need to set the background color, set BackgroundColor to WMAppManifest.xml as follows.

 <BackgroundColor>[hex ARGB format color]</BackgroundColor>

I work with Xamarin.Forms (Shared) for my WP application and also have problems implementing Tile in the WP part of my project. To set the background image to transparent on the image of the tile, completed the task. But I used images with 158x158 and 336x336, which also works and allows you to use the standard icon (in higher resolution), which - I think - most users want to do. I created a short description for all visitors who use XF for WP development (including the application icon, splash screen, and Tile).

How to add application icon, splash screen and fragment in WP 8.0 XF project
