Escape hides the full user interface

I updated Eclipse Kepler from Juno and found that it handles the Esc key in a completely different way.

Usually, with the Esc key, I could interrupt smaller views / menus, such as autocomplete: Alt + Space , to open the drop-down menu of automatic completion, Esc to close it.

However, with Kepler, I found that Esc hides basically everything. Before:

State before pressing Esc:

After:

State after pressing Esc:

Esc is not associated with any function (it is not specified in the configuration under the keys). Is this the default behavior now? Does anyone else have this?

Resetting perspectives will not change this behavior. I think this may have something to do with the style of floating windows. When I installed Kepler and started it, I had to manually change the inner window (containing all the usual views) to the screen size.

Edit: I can return the UI by clicking the small Java perspective button in the small menu bar in the upper left. The functionality of Esc seems to be the same with all views (focusing on each view and then pressing Esc does the same for each view).

Somehow, it happened that you managed to minimize your perspective stack (the panel that appears on the left of your image β€œafter”). This usually happens only when you open the Welcome view (which is defined as being outside of any perspective).

To restore it, you just need to click on the top recovery item in the left pane.

Now, why did this happen as a result of pressing ESC, I can only drop the sentences from above to check if any command was attached to ESC (in my Win7 box does not happen).

This poor looking behavior is associated with workplace corruption.

One of the following will clear it.

1) Try to fix the problem in the existing workspace.

  • Choose Window->Reset Perspective .
  • Press Esc . (It works if you don't read further ...)

NOTE: Reset perspective returns perspective to its default layout, so you will have to reformat your views, assuming the default layout is not to your liking. However, by doing this, you can save your own layout with Window->Save Perspective As...

  • After the perspective has been reset, exit and restart Eclipse to make sure that the changes to the perspective are committed and saved correctly in the workspace. (Try again, will it work? If you don't read further ...)

As Gunanares mentioned in his comment below. Perhaps you should try deleting the directory. Metadata in the workspace. However, be careful, this may be unsafe! Back up your workspace before doing this. Better yet, try 2 first.

2) Restore your workspace.

  • File->Export, Choose General>Preferences to save workspace settings.
  • File->Export, Choose Team->Team Project Set . Complete the wizard and export all projects. We will use the psf file to import projects into the new workspace.
  • Exit Eclipse.
  • Launch Eclipse using the new workspace.
  • File->Import, Choose Team->Team Project Set . Specify the psf file that you create and import your projects.

Vista should work correctly!
