Do PhoneGap Applications Need an Internet Connection?

I think this is the main question, but I can not find it on my site or just fix it if I am wrong. I would like to ask if phone applications need to be connected to the Internet to use it? I need to understand and know this. Since I am torn between the two options, do I need to use my own code or phone gap. Thanks

PhoneGap applications can receive all their content from the local device, which means that if you store assets in the application (the traditional way in PhoneGap is to place pages / images / etc. in the assets/www folder in Android), then the application will be able to work offline.
