What does the question mark mean in Xcode Project Navigator?

In the project navigator in Xcode, I'm not sure what is it? trying to tell me next to the file name.

Screen shot

I am sure that it is not a coincidence that this is the same file that I dragged from the project root directory to the Classes folder (because there was a .mm file there, and I wanted them to be together). The project still compiles just fine, however my code sense has broken recently, and I wonder if this could be part of the problem.

Thank!

This is a file that is not tracked by the source code.

These characters refer to a source control.

  • ? - unverified
  • M - changed
  • A - added
  • A + - Moved / Renamed
  • U - newer version of the source control file

You can add to the original control by selecting unnecessary files enter image description here

These are unlocked files, if you are using GIT, you need to right-click Source Control> Commit Manual Selected File. That should pick up the "?" on the new version of Xcode 6.3.2 today

Along with all the other answers. This should not happen by default unless you change the settings in Xcode.

From the Xcode settings โ†’ Source Control โ†’ make sure that โ€œAdd and delete files automaticallyโ€ is selected

I unexpectedly received one of my Unversioned (with a mark?), But it was an old file.

It was a .m file. Before the problem arose, I made a copy of it to create a new similar class. I renamed the class and added a new file in Xcode.

The problem (with the old file turned into Unversioned) was not renamed to the comment line at the beginning:

 // // MyFirstClass.m

When I renamed it, the problem with the Unversioned file was resolved.

 // // MySecondClass.m

Hope this helps someone.

PS In addition, you may need to delete and copy these files.
