How to install DejaVu Sans Mono font in vim for xp?

I installed vim for xp, there is a _vimrc file in C: \ Vim, I installed the font in _vimrc :

 set guifont=Bitstream_Vera_Sans_Mono:h11:cANSI

When I open vim, setup cannot work; when I open gvim, setup can work. what's the matter? The configuration I write in _vimrc can work fine in gvim when I open it, why can't it work in vim? In my gvim and cmd, I can see the Bitstream_Vera_Sans_Mono font on the screen, and my active console code page is set to 437, vim cannot use the Bitstream_Vera_Sans_Mono font, why?

In $MYVIMRC add the line:

 set guifont=DejaVu\ Sans\ Mono:h11

... where :h11 , sets the height of 11 points.

NB: A _ can be used instead of space, so you don't need to use backslashes to avoid spaces.

Notes, after updating to the question

'guifont' only works on the Vim GUI (i.e. gvim ), and not on the console (or terminal) instance of vim . Vim does not control the font of the terminal in which it works.

If you want to change the Windows XP ( ! ) Console font , see How to change the font of the Windows XP console? on SuperUser .
