How to get the MD5 fingerprint from Mavericks

I am new to Android app development. I'm currently trying to incorporate some Google maps into my Android app. I used several guides that say I need an MD5 fingerprint from my local machine to get the API key, but I don't know how to get this MD5 fingerprint. Can someone help or point me in the right direction?

Writing to the terminal:

keytool -list -storepass android -keystore /Users/sigrlami/.android/debug.keystore

you need to find your debug.keystore first

It will return the certificate fingerprint certificate (MD5) as follows: C0: DC: 2A: E4: E6: C6: C2: 93: CF: 9E: xxxxxxx .....
