Komodo Edit 8.5 Tab Settings

I am using Komodo Edit 8.5 and I have problems with tabs. When I press the Tab key, it jumps 8 characters instead of 4, which I use in the settings (Edit - Preferences - Indentation).

The number of spaces indent is 4 and the Width of each tab character is also 4, so I don’t understand where the problem is.

Everything looks great (one tab is 4 characters), but when I press the tab key, it flips 8 characters. It seems to completely ignore my settings.

Do you have a solution?

Komodo has an error in the setting "Allow file contents to override tab settings" . Here (in No. 1) you can fix it so that you no longer need to change the settings for each file:

  • Go to: Settings-> Editor-> Indents. From this screen. Disable "Allow file contents to override tab settings", because it is very bad and can cause Komodo to move your settings (therefore, you need to change the setting for each file)
  • From the same screen - change the "Number of spaces per indent" to 4
  • On the same screen, use the drop-down list to check the language tab settings for each type of file that you are editing.
  • From the same screen, cancel "Prefer the character tab over spaces" both in the upper section and in the section for each language of this screen (be sure to check the drop-down list). Tab character settings look like errors.

Currently, open files close them and open them again or perform the following actions:

  1. Right-click inside the text of the file-> Properties and Settings-> Indents (either in the Edit menu-> Settings for the current file or in the Code menu-> Settings for the current file). The Indent section must be changed for each file for open files.

Now all new files / or newly opened files will be opened with the correct indent settings due to a change in # 1.

You may also need to make changes to Code> Current File Settings> Indents.

Uncheck the box under Editor => Preferences => Indents:

  • Prefer Tab Characters over spaces

Komodo displays tabs wherever possible, according to the values given in the number of spaces for indentation and the width of the margins of each Tab character. When the Tab key is pressed, Komodo inserts the indent to the next indent width. If the new indent is a multiple of the tab width, Komodo inserts the Tab character. Example: with a tab width of 8 and an indent width of 4, the first indent is 4 spaces, the second indent is a tab character, and the third indent is a tab character plus 4 spaces.
