Tab bar buttons are all gray

I'm trying to create a tab bar controller, but last time I did it with iOS 6.1. But now, when I put the tab bar controller on the storyboard, it does not display the buttons, and no changes that I try to make on the background and text appear. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Since this is just mentioned in the comments, and I struggled with this problem for a long time, this solution:

Add the image to the Tab Bar Item and you will see the normal view of the tab bar on the specific View Controller where you changed it. When each Tab Bar Item received an image, you will also see a normal view in the Tab Bar Controller .

This is the only fix that worked for me after reinstalling Xcode and rebooting my mac, which did not solve the problem.

I would be grateful for other solutions, because I think that this was not always the case.
