MPMediaItemInsurance and Transparency

Question

When I tried to get a transparent cover image on the iPhone lock screen, I got a white background where it should be transparent.

Is it possible to use an image with alpha for MPMediaItemArtwork? I did not find anything about this in the official docs .

Short and disappointing answer No: it is not possible to install MPMediaItemArtwork with transparency for iOS9 or earlier.
