Email Acknowledgment as a Data Item Type - Function Points

I understand that a confirmation message in the user interface is considered a data element type (DET). What if my confirmation message is a warning field in the user interface plus confirmation by email.

Should I count it as 1 DET or 2 DETs

I am sure that this is considered 2 DET, since I can not imagine how this can be considered as one:

  • the user is notified in two completely different ways.
  • the software must verify both confirmations; the input data actually consists of two data elements.
  • According to this , the DET must decide whether this data element is needed, and it can be different.

But I'm not an IT professor, this is only a logical meaning.

It should definitely be considered 2 DET. The user interface alert field is different from the email confirmation.
