We built a chrome extension, which will be used only within our company of choice of people. We do not want to publish this in the chrome online store. We could have done this earlier by simply dragging the crx file onto the extensions page.
But in the latest version of chrome (I use 35.x) we can no longer do this. Whenever we try to install a crx file, chrome automatically disables it and displays a message
"This extension is not listed on the Chrome Web Store and may have been added without your knowledge."
with a link to https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2811969 where it says
"You see this notification because one or more of your Chrome extensions has been disabled to make Chrome safer. The extensions have not come from the Chrome Web Store or were not installed without your permission."
So, does this mean that we can never install a crx file from now on? No workaround?
I know that we can install using the Group Policy method, but is this the only way to do this?
Thanks in advance.
