Emacs, do not split a separate window

This may be a stupid question, but I could not find a direct solution to this. I often want to open the window as follows

+--------------+-------------+ +--------------+-------------+ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +--------------+ | --> | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +--------------+-------------+ +--------------+-------------+ +--------------+--------------+ +-----------------------------+ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +--------------+--------------+ --> +-----------------------------+ | | | | | | | | | | | | +-----------------------------+ +-----------------------------+

Currently, I start with ctrl-x 1 and then split vertically / horizontally. but my real qustion is how you can remove a specific window split without breaking the structure of another window.? is there any elisp function in the built.?

I hope that I will correctly formulate my question

You can use the key combination Cx 0 to delete the current window.

Rémi's answer is what you are looking for, but winner mode is also extremely useful for reverting to previous window configurations after any arbitrary changes (for example, restoring these multiple partitions after entering Cx 1 ).

You can include it in the initialization file with:

 (winner-mode 1) ;"Cc <left>" and "Cc <right>" undo and re-do window changes.
