There is no add-in tab, although the add-in is loading and working

I wrote an Excel VBA add-in more than ten years ago that uses the old Commandbars to place menus in the Excel Tools menu (in Excel 2003 and earlier versions) or on the Excel add-ins tab (in Excel 2007 and later versions), I never had problems with the appearance of the menu in all versions of Excel from 97 to 2013.

But now the user says that the Excel add-in menu does not appear for him in Excel 2013. Usually this means that the add-in is not loaded, but in his case the add-in loads and works. We know that the add-in loads and works because the add-in adds custom worksheet functions, and these UDFs work great for it. But he wants to get into the add-in menu and cannot.

My googling showed that some people were having problems with the add-in menu in 2013, but I did not find anything specific about this problem.

Yes, he tried to enable the add-ons tab in Excel Options> Customize Ribbon.

By the way, this is an .xla add-in, not a COM add-in.

Any suggestions?

I have Excel 2010, and the add-in tab has disappeared for the HTML add-in. I tried all the suggestion options and finally found the one that worked for me!

Go to the add-ons folder in which you saved the add-on. Right-click the file and select Properties. At the bottom of the General tab - if it says "Security" - check the "Unlock" option.

Voila! My add-ons never disappear again!

It is decided:

This is resolved now, but a really strange solution, if you turned on the add-in while the Analysis ToolPaks were on, it would have a problem above, but if you turned on the add-in while the Analysis ToolPaks were not checked, then let's go back to him and again mark the โ€œAnalysis Toolโ€, it will be good and will not disappear! There was a very strange problem!

As I understand it, this is a problem with Excel 2013 (another attempt by the Redmond guys to make our lives miserable with each update of their products). The workaround I found is to include the following code in the ThisWorkbook module in Addin:

Private Sub Workbook_Open() Workbook_AddinUninstall Workbook_AddinInstall End Sub

Hooray!

I had a similar problem with excel 2013. There was no add-in tab. I went to Developer โ†’> Add-Ins and deselected the add-in I wanted. Click OK, then repeat the process and select the same add-in. Click OK. The add-in tab appears.

As of July 2016, security options in Excel disable add-ons in the old default location. The website shows how to set the directory to trusted status.

I had a similar problem when two .xlam files downloaded and appearing on tabbed tabs in Excel 2010 did not appear in the ribbon in Excel 2013, even if they were loaded every time the workbook was opened. I tried all kinds of solutions - disabling the Analysis Toolpack, disabling and enabling .xlam files, making sure that the XML file with the attached XML code was updated (I thought that the MSO image that I had in the XML code was no longer available in Excel 2013), but nothing happened. In the end, I tried to copy and rename the .xlam file and include it in Excel and, oddly enough, appeared on the ribbon.

I have no idea why it was necessary to copy and rename it - almost the same way as in Excel 2013 you need a new copy of the .xlam file before it can appear. Very strange!

I searched for this answer for a long time, and the previous code worked, but for me only with Workbook_Open () instead of Thisworkbook_Open ()

 Private Sub Workbook_Open() Workbook_AddinUninstall Workbook_AddinInstall End Sub

Thanks for finding this!

I disabled add-ins on the Developer tab, and then enabled them through File> Options> Add-ons> Manage Add-ons.

Voila!

You can try disabling notification macros. (tested in 2016)

  • File-> options-> trust center-> macro settings-> checkmark disable all macros with notification This worked for me.

If I am turned off and on, I can get the add-ons tab to appear, but every time I open the document, I had to repeat. This seemed to fix it for me:

File> Preferences> AddIns> Select XML Extension Packages> Go To> Select Microsoft 3 Action Bar> Attach> OK

I had similar problems with Excel 2016 (not from 2010 and 2017), and very strange it was solved as follows:

1) Deactivate the add-in 2) Exit Excel 3) Activate the add-in 4) Go to the file> Close (in French: Fichier> Fermer)

And when I click Close, the Components menu suddenly appears in Excel 2016!

Good luck

Had a similar problem in Excel 2010. I tried all the suggestions above, but to no avail. In the end, it turned out that even if it was an .xll add-in, it was somehow also specified as a COM add-in. So, go to File> Options> Add-in, then select Disabled Items from the list at the bottom of this window and enable the add-in, working for me. The Active Application Add-ins list now displays both the original Excel add-in and the unexpected COM add-in without space. Oh, and the tab, of course, has returned. Hover over your mouse.
