Confused about differences between AdMob, Ad Exchange, and DFP

I read the Google Mobile Ads SDK on the Internet. It provides guidance on using AdMob, Ad Exchange, and DoubleClick for Publisher (DFP).

But after reading these recommendations, I really got confused about the differences between them. I feel that they are almost the same for my Android mobile app. Can someone please let me understand the main differences between the three?

As long as I know, there is one SDK and 3 different ways to get ads.

AdMob manages investors for you, and you get paid for views and clicks. DFP provides you with a container for advertising, but you need to find companies that pay for them. Ad Exchange (I'm not sure) allows you to trade ads for other users.

As a guide for future visitors:

  • DFP is a platform that allows publishers to sell space in their digital properties (i.e. websites, applications, etc., also called inventory) through an organized 1: 1 sale where the advertiser must send ads to the publisher. More details here .
  • AdX allows publishers to sell their inventory to buyers at a software auction. Learn more about how this auction works .
  • AdMob is similar to AdX, but focuses solely on the mobile environment for in-app advertising. Helpful Help Center article .
