Wrong mysqld kill - now doesn't start

I stopped mysqld by killing the process id and then deleted the mysqld.sock file. Now mysqld does not start.

I know there is some data corruption. But now I need to start MySQL without reinstalling it.

The following are the logs that are generated.

InnoDB: using the same InnoDB data or log files.
InnoDB: Unable to lock ./ibdata1, error: 11
InnoDB: Check that you do not already have another mysqld process

You need to restore innodb data files.

# cd /var/lib/mysql # mkdir bak # mv ibdata1 bak/ # mv ib_logfile* bak/ # cp -a bak/ibdata1 ibdata1 # cp -a bak/ib_logfile* . # rm -rf bak # service mysqld restart

  sudo mysqld -u root -p

when I should have done:

  sudo mysql -u root -p

Hope this helps someone who has had a rough morning like me .. hahah
