How to add video to iOS7.1 Xcode 6 simulator

I am trying to add a video to the My Photos app in the simulator. I have been using the Safari trick ( How to add images in iOS Simulator ) for a long time, but it does not work for me with the iOS7.1 simulator,

When I drag from Finder, I get a green + sign, but the video does not play in Safari, so I can’t save it in Camera Roll.

It works great for iOS8 simulator with Xcode6.

For your request, copy my comment above into the answer ...

You should be able to do this by dragging the video into your application folder and then entering it programmatically. See this post .

Glad it worked for you! Obviously make sure not in any production code.

Starting with iOS 12, just drag and drop the video directly into the Photos app in the simulator, everything seems to work out!

I ran into the same issue with the iOS 7.1 simulator but found the following solution.

  1. Run 8.3 Simulator
  2. Drag the video (make sure that it is in the correct format) over the simulator, Safari should open it and start playing.
  3. Click Finish and copy the URL you see above in the Safari search bar.
  4. Run 7.1 Simulator
  5. Open Safari, paste the URL just copied into the search bar and press Enter. The video should open and start playing.
  6. Click Finish, click the Share button, and select Save Video.
  7. Your video should now be in the video clip.

Hope this helps

Rename the file to .m4v and then drag it to the simulator, Safari will open, then you can share with the camera.
