Emulate a Bluetooth device with a PC

I wonder if it is possible to emulate a specific Bluetooth device, such as a remote control for a TV or other device with my PC. I would be fine with installing an additional hardware device for my computer (for example, a BlueTooth PCIe card).

I imagined something like β€œrecording” all the single commands of my original remote control using my Bluetooth card, and then used these recorded commands to turn on the TV, for example.

Is it possible something like this (with additional equipment)?

Because of this, it is possible. Bluetooth is just a protocol, and you can embed it in your software to emulate all kinds of devices. If you need to emulate simple devices, such as a keyboard or mouse, there are many ready-made solutions, such as this .

But if you do not have a standard device, there will be no ready-made solutions, and you will have to implement it yourself. What can help you:

  • If you have some kind of controller for the PC, and you want to emulate a device with an unknown protocol, you can use WireShark or another sniffer to understand what is happening.

  • There is an emulator called BT-Sim , but it is so poorly documented that I can’t even guess what it does.

  • You can take as an example other Android software, as described in the answers to this question .

  • You can check out various sample PC programs, for example.

For hardware, you only need a simple Bluetooth dongle. However, if you want to keep track of some BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) devices, you can buy a hardware sniffer like this .
