Alternative to the Layer messaging shell for iOS messaging

I'm trying to integrate some cool messaging features into my iOS app, I was wondering if any of you have a good alternative to the software offered by https://layer.com/ , this seems like a very simple, hassle-free way to get closer to it , and I need my backend to be handled by someone else. Any pros or cons of this service? any alternative?

Quickblox: https://quickblox.com

And the code examples are available for simple text chat, video chat and also include file transfers: http://quickblox.com/developers/IOS

It has a free start-up plan with limited use on their shared cloud, as well as plans for the enterprise to host on its own server and configure as needed.

Talkchain from http://afty.co

https://github.com/afty/TalkChain-iOS

Much more focused on attracting and monetizing users against chat as a service, but worth a look.

We have some serious scalability issues with Layer, and we think we can think about switching to something more robust. I remember that it was the same argument with Parse when they were just starting out, although they were making a number and became a much more scalable solution. Perhaps the layer will follow the same path. For now, think about it, considering Layer as your chat structure.

Pubnub and Pusher offer real-time services that you can use to create a chat client, but it's a pain in the ass to implement.
