ZXing on Android PDF417

Could anyone read the PDF417 barcode using ZXing on Android OS? They support this - and, according to their page, it is at the alpha stage.

We are not looking for the perfect solution - since PDF417 is quite complex and needs a very good camera with autofocus, we can agree that it will work only on a few pre-selected high-performance devices.

We also tried Barcode Scanner + , available on the Android Market - it has the PDF417 option in the settings, but everything we read always fails.

We also looked for a commercial SDK, also here on stackoverflow, but no luck.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards, Stan

It really depends on what you expect. A simple PDF417 can be read quite quickly, for example ... this or this .

This one will never be verified.

Borderline is a small or moderately complex material: Example 1 and Example 2 .

I can read the first, but not the second, although the first size is denser - it helps.

  • Be sure to enable PDF 417 decoding; he is the default
  • Quiet zone required (space around code)
  • Focus and light help a lot.

Used, it can scan PDF417 format. Make sure you try using the gadget that contains the Auto Focus camera. Tried this on a Samsung Galaxy Tab, it works like a charm.

You can try the PDF417.mobi SDK. It should work on junior class phones if equipped with an autofocus camera. It is a commercial library, but free for developers and non-commercial purposes.

You can try the demo here or play with the code directly from GitHub . The official website is here http://pdf417.mobi/

Zxing solution does not work for me. I used DataSymbol Decoder (enable 2d codes, by default they are disabled) on my samsung charge. In less than a second, I grabbed my drivers license ...
