Microsoft Edge F12 Developer Tool Does Not Open

After upgrading to Windows 10, I can’t get the F12 developer tools to show / work under MS Edge.

The IE 11 developer tools still work, but I can see the rendering differences on my websites I'm working on, so they can work with Edge.

I assume they are available?

You have already tried fixing the re-registration packages, as well as resetting Internet Options, but nothing works.

I am working on the Microsoft Edge team and have not personally heard of any issues related to the developer tools not working. As indicated in another answer here , tools will only be available through the menu and F12 when you go to the document. Tools do not work for things like New Tab.

If you still have problems with the developer tools, share additional information about your build of Windows 10 (run winver from Run) and Microsoft Edge (version number is available in the settings). I will gladly submit a question for further investigation.

In the meantime, you can try another utility in Windows 10 called F12 Chooser. You will find this under C:\Windows\System32\F12\F12Chooser.exe . This will determine all the possible debugging goals that are open on your computer. You should see the Edge instance listed.

The next page of the problem contains the solution for this in the comments, which worked for me: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/18153935/

If you are allowed to use powershell, run the following command as a user to fix the dev tool: Add-AppxPackage -register "C:\windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeDevToolsClient_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppxManifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode -Confirm:$false

Answer

If you open Edge without going to the website first, then the F12 developer tools will not be available. For example, if you simply open a new tab, then you will not have tools. When you really go to the site, the tools will be turned on again.

Off

Disabled in a new tab.

The phenomenon of “empty developer tools” is a known issue, as you can see here: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/15458103/

The solution is still unknown. I have the same effect here on my computer with one account, but I see a tool page with a different user account on the same machine. Therefore, I think this may be a problem related to the user profile.

I absolutely did not succeed, except for this :

Using Administrator permissions, delete the following files and restart Developer Tools:

The folder %windir%\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeDevToolsClient_8wekyb3d8bbwe\microsoft.system.package.metadata\Autogen\ and the exact file depends on the system arch:

  • x64: JSByteCodeCache_64
  • x86: JSByteCodeCache_32
