TortoiseSVN logo overlays not showing after upgrading to Windows 10

I used the Windows 8 and TortoiseSVN icons that displayed correctly, but after installing Windows 10 I can no longer see the icons for the status of files / folders.

Had the same problem and was solved by running regedit , erasing some entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers and restarting. Removing OneDrive1 ... was not allowed, but I had some from Google Drive. You can also do bakup by double-clicking in the registry directory and doing "Export" to a file.

In Windows 10, most entries are used by OneDrive and you will not have permission to delete them. To do this, right-click on the record (Example: “OneDrive1”, then click “Advanced”, then click the “Edit” link at the top next to “Owner.” This will allow you to change the owner. In your username and click “OK ". Now give yourself" Full Control "and then apply it. Now you can delete or rename it.

Registry Editor removed

As in the current recommended answer, you need to sort the overlay identifier entries in the registry. I did not delete OneDrive or GoogleDrive entries, but renamed all the Tortoise Folders folders, adding 3 spaces to bring them on top. Just reboot and even with the Tortoise SVN 1.7.9 client you will again see your SVN overlay icons under Windows 10.

I fixed my problems with TortoiseSVN icons that do not appear in Windows 10, for a special case when my repository was on a removable drive.

There is a Tortoise parameter that determines which types of drives the icons are used: Drives A: and B: Removable drives, Network drives, Fixed drives, CD-ROMs, RAM disks, and Unknown drives .

This is not a problem with naming the icon overlay in the Windows registry.

Names automatically start with the prefix "1", "2", etc.

to force them (on my computer) in alphabetical order at the top of the list immediately before the OneDrive icons.

So, all the icons were at the top of 15. To go to the turtle’s settings, right-click on the desktop or in the folder, and then select TortoiseSVN> Settings .

In the settings, select Icon overlay . There you will find settings for Disk Types .

You can go to:

Tortoise Settings > Icon Overlays -> Overlay Handlers

Screenshot

and uncheck all the checkboxes, apply, then activate them and apply.

This will do the same in the registry, but not manually.

Otherwise, you can open the registry using the button below and move up the keys, adding some spaces in front of the name.

TortoiseSVN 1.9.1 will work on the issue by renaming the Overlay icons (starting with 2 spaces) to make sure they are loaded in front of the OneDrive icons .

Windows Explorer selects 15 custom overlay icons (Windows reserves 4, so there are actually only 11 overlay icons ) - they are used by several applications (Google drive, one drive, Tortoise SVN). If you have several applications installed, the first ones in the list will display their icons, the remaining applications will not.

The problem is described in more detail in: https://tortoisesvn.net/faq.html#ovlnotall .

Open the registry editor in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers

Rename the icons that are not important for you to start with the prefix 'z_ (it will be the last in the list, after that it will not be used).

regedit snapshoot

A restart of Windows may be required, since simply restarting Explorer does not work. But in my case, the icons turned out to be correct after a while. (10-20 minutes?).

I would recommend changing the overlay status cache.

Settings -> Icon Overlays -> Status cache

Maybe this will help reinitialize the cache.

Be sure to use the latest version of the turtle.

Check the scaling of your monitor .

My problem turned out to be this:

It turned out that the main and secondary monitors had different DPI scaling. When the secondary monitor was set to 125% (the same as on the primary monitor), the icons reappeared.

The answer actually provided by the publication of User3163 on SuperUser.com

For those using Windows 10, there is a request in the feedback center to get Microsoft to fix this problem. If you want to add +1 for correction, here is the link: https://aka.ms/Cryalp .

The link works only on Windows 10, since it needs to open a feedback center in order to receive an offer. The link was generated using the Share feature in the feedback center, and aka.ms is the internal link shortening service used by Microsoft.

I had the same problem as the OP. Installing version 1.9.2 resolved the problem without any configuration.

The following steps worked for me:

  • TortoiseSVN → Settings → IconOverlays → Icon Set
  • Select the "Win10" icon.
  • Reboot the computer.

Please update your SVN Tortoise to the latest version. I would recommend you change the settings, see here.

Settings -> Icon Overlays -> Status cache

do it like a shell and apply

Now reboot the machine to reflect the changes.

I used Subversion 1.7.x , and installing version 1.9.1 or changing registry entries did not help solve this problem of overlaying icons.

In my case, after using a working copy of the SVN update, an inscription appeared on the icon for the updated project.

In conclusion, old projects using Subversion 1.7.x do not show icons and projects using Subversion 1.9.x do (under Windows 10).

Tip: there is a button that will lead you to the registry in Settings → Icon Overlay → Overlay Handlers → Launch Registry Editor. At least in version 1.9.1

I deleted all my onedrive keys, installed the last preview, etc. and finally realized that icons work all the time for some views of the explorer directory, not others.

In other words, medium, large, very large and fragment, but not a list or details. Since I don’t want to learn all about how this works, I just look at my working directories like tiles.

svn update working copy. In my case, Jenkins never did a full check, so the working copy is out of date.

As others have indicated, the overlay icon registry area is overloaded. Here is a powershell script that allows you to unload all overlays in the registry into a file, and then, after you edit the file to prioritize your overlays, you can import them back and protect them from further changes from other programs. works under the SYSTEM.

After upgrading your PC to Windows 10 and completing the installation of Tortoise SVN, then restart your computer.

Icon overlay issue resolved.

This works on my Windows 10 PC with Tortoise SVN 1.10.0.28176 .

Hope it helps :)

If you use other version control software, this can lead to a conflict. In my case, uninstalling Plastic SCM restored the Tortoise SVN icons.

Checking "Removable Drives" and "Network Drives" worked for me.

I did all of the above and nothing worked. Overlay icons appeared in Explorer, but not in Total Commander.

In the end, what solved the problem for me was that I discovered a command in Total Commander that updated the overlay icons. To access it, right-click on the toolbar, click "Change ..." and add "cm_SwitchOverlayIcons", as shown in the figure below.

After adding the command icon to the toolbar, I click it once and the TortoiseSVN overlay icon appears!

For quick and dirty work, try unistalling OneDrive, DropBox, Google Drive clients for me, it worked on Windows 10 x64.
