How to get / add OneDrive tags via API?

On the OneDrive website, under Photos> Tags, it shows that it has behind-the-scenes analysis of my photos and calculates common tags, for example. #People, #Fireworks, #Whiteboard.

How can I access these tags programmatically through the OneDrive API?

It seems that they are not physically stored in the JPEG EXIF โ€‹โ€‹header - at least I did not find them using ExifTool or the exifdata.com website. (In fact, I canโ€™t even say whether EXIF โ€‹โ€‹can allow storing arbitrary tags in it ... searching for the "exif tag" for obvious reasons leads to incorrect results :))

And I could not find any OneDrive APIs that mentioned these tags. It seems that they were not present in any aspects.

At this time (February 2016), this is not available through the API.

However, there is a UserVoice request to add them to the API. On November 25, 2015, it was marked "Plans" and currently ranks 11th in the list of planned features . If the request is not completed, the associated ETA will not be used.
