How to transfer a row of lines to one place on the right in a text editor?

If I wanted to move a series of lines a few spaces to the right, I would do:

selected text + Tab

However, I just want to move the text one place to the right without tabs.

Any suggestions?

While holding the alt key, left-click and hold the mouse button in the first row where you want to insert your place. Then, while holding down the left mouse button, drag the mouse vertically to expand this edit point to all the lines you want to move. By dragging it horizontally, you will create a rectangle that you want to avoid, as the selected text will be replaced, and no space will be added.

In addition, you cannot select individual, disjoint lines to move. You can only use alt-drag over an adjacent block of lines.

After creating a multi-line edit point, hit the space bar once.

TA-dah.

Here's a Scott Guthrie blog post with more details and a vidya demo

If you do not want to use the mouse, you can use shift + alt + (up, down, left, or right) to create a field selection or multi-line editing point.
