How am I - long polls and planners?

I am trying to plan a long polling mechanism. And I was wondering if I can use the Planners for this.

Here is what I thought so far.

• Schedule by timer, but only in the next queue, if the previous iteration has already been completed.

• Complete the next iteration when the previous iteration ends.

I look at existing planners, but I'm not sure which one to choose and what to overload.

And last but not least, since I'm new to the Rx world, what are the benefits of using the Scheduler with respect to the roll.
