SQL Server is always encrypted with .NET Core incompatible

I am trying to use the Always Encrypted property for SQL Server 2016 with .NET Core and it looks like it cannot be used (for now). Trying to import Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.AlwaysEncrypted.AzureKeyVaultProvider from Nuget, I get an error message that is incompatible:

Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.AlwaysEncrypted.AzureKeyVaultProvider 1.0.201501028 is incompatible with netstandard1.6 (.NETStandard, Version = v1.6)

Any ideas on how and where to get a compatible version?

Disclaimer: I'm a program manager at Microsoft

Encrypted is currently not supported in .NET Core. This is on our roadmap, we do not have a schedule yet.

Now it is supported in .NET Core 3.0 Preview 5 , which provides the new SqlClient with Always Encrypted support and much more. See this comment for more information.
