Is it still necessary and important?

I know that there are things related to viewport ads regarding some browsers. But it looks like these are old things, but what about other browsers nowadays?

This article explains in detail why and when you need fastclick.js : https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2013/12/300ms-tap-delay-gone-away

TL; DR

As in the case of Chrome 32 (back in 2014), this delay will disappear for sites with mobile device optimization, without removing the zoom! Firefox and IE / Edge did the same shortly afterwards, and in March 2016 a similar fix appeared in iOS 9.3.

So far, your <head> includes: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width"> , so the browser assumes that you have made the text readable on your mobile phone, so there’s no need for a double click.
