Visual Studio Code Disables Auto Close Tags

I'm on the verge of despair ...

{ "html.autoClosingTags": false, }

What else needs to be done to remove these terrible autocomplete tags?

I searched online and it really bothers me more than necessary. I apologize if this seems like a frivolous question, but I am ready to try everything and everything at this stage.

Open Visual Studio Code, go to " Preferences → Settings

On the User Settings tab, select Text Editor and search for Auto Closing Brackets . Installed as never before .

Text Editor - Auto Closing Brackets setting

Based on Visual Studio Code 1.28 for macOS.

You may need to remove the comma after "false". Visual Studio code does not seem to like commas after the last statement in the settings.

For me, the solution was to expand. I had the Auto Close Tag extension installed (who knows when I thought it was a good idea) that redefined built-in autocomplete. Disabling the extension fixed it.

Check your included extensions and see if there are any that can add this behavior.

Just ran into this problem, and I went to settings -> settings -> extensions -> HTML -> disable HTML tag completion. Hope this helps!
