What is the difference between Firebase and Firestore?

I just saw that Google released Firestore and we are currently using Firebase for our application, does anyone know the difference? Does Firestore have a relationship? Is it easy to migrate?

Firestore is part of Firebase along with the Firebase Realtime database (and many other services). We have a guide to choose between: https://firebase.google.com/docs/firestore/rtdb-vs-firestore - to indicate the top line

  • The real-time database is the original Firebase database. This is an effective low-latency solution for mobile applications that requires real-time synchronized states for clients.
  • Cloud Firestore is the new flagship Firebase base for mobile app development. This improves the success of the Realtime database with a new, more intuitive data model. Cloud Firestore also has richer, faster queries and scales than the Realtime database.

From what I read and understood, the Firestore service is a rewritten version of Firebase that allows you to perform more complex queries, as well as offline database storage. Authentication seems to be simpler, although I have not had too many authentication problems in Firebase in the past.

Saying, I would not change your technology when it becomes new. There is less documentation and more errors, so it’s worth your time, even considering all the new features that Firebase does not have.

I read about it here.
