Improved Add to Homescreen icon and name (WebAPK) for installed web application in Google Chrome, not updating after manifest update

I have a website that meets all the prerequisites for Google Chrome for Android "enhanced" home screen add function (A2HS). I can install the application, and the APK is configured and installed on the device, and the icon is available on the desktop.

The documentation for the Google developer blog says that using the "Improved" A2HS, you can now change the manifest.json file with a new icon and name after the site is subsequently visited, the icon and name of the installed web application should be updated:

Now you have the opportunity to update the Progressive Web App icon and the name and its reflection to the user. Changing the icon or name in the manifest will update the icon on the main screen after the user subsequently opens the site.

I tried to change the manifest with the new values and verify that the changed manifest is loaded into the browser when the site is reopened, but the name and icon for the installed web application are not updated. This has been tested in Chrome for Android v63.

How do I make it work? Are there any specific steps to take care of? Did I miss something?

According to what I read, if you can create WebAPK from your site, then you are all set to improve A2HS.

I tried changing my short name in my manifest.json to find out if the application name is being updated, but to no avail. Therefore, I assume that this is not something that we could control, since we met all the requirements of improved A2HS.

I don’t know how long Chrome should generate a new APK for our pages, and I don’t know exactly when it does it, because I’m not patient enough to wait too long (I waited about an hour), so for my part add the salt .
