I have a question that was originally asked here: Open the og: video Meta Tags report in 2010, but the answer no longer works.
I try to show a video on YouTube on Facebook (and play it on Facebook) when the link is shared. The following og: video tag on the page does not work (it never happened):
<meta property="og:video" content="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH4YSF-i5dY" />
The solution proposed here by https://stackoverflow.com/a/312924/ ... in 2013 worked very well until recently. This should have changed og: video to something like this (note how the string value v shown):
<meta property="og:video" content="https://www.youtube.com/v/ZH4YSF-i5dY" />
This no longer works, and Facebook completely ignores it.
Another option I tried is to put the YouTube URL in og:url :
<meta property="og:url" content="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH4YSF-i5dY" />
This approach tells Facebook to clear YouTube to get a thumbnail, but clicking on the message sends the user to the original page that was shared. The click behavior is correct (I want the user to return to the original shared page), but the user is not allowed to play the video.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
Update: Unfortunately, this is starting to more and more resemble this change Facebook made in August 2017 (and has been slowly moving across different regions over the course of several months), and this is in design. In other words, there is no way to do this work. :-( If someone has a workaround, it would be great to know the community.
