Combine rss feeds

I want to combine several rss channels into one channel, removing any duplicates. In particular, I am interested in merging channels for tags in which I am interested.

[A quick search has come up with a number of promising links that I don’t have time to visit at the moment]

In general, the ideal would be a reader who will list all the available tags on the site and turn them on and off, allowing me to study what is available, track the questions I visited, new answers to interesting channels, etc. etc., although I don’t think that such things exist right now.

As I accidentally explore the site and see issues that I think are interesting, I inevitably find "oh, yes, it looked interesting a couple of days ago when I read it for the first time and has not been updated since." It would be much better if my machine tracked such files for me :)

Update: Now you can use "and", "or" and "no" to combine multiple tags into one channel: Tags and OR Tags

Update: Now you can use Filters to view tags on one or more sites: Improved tag labels

Have you heard of Yahoo Pipes .

Interactive Aggregator and Manipulator. Hot pipe list to subscribe and create your own (requires a yahoo account).

I played with him during beta testing on the same day, however I had an explosion. Its really fun and easy to combine different channels, and you can add logic or filters to the β€œpipes”. You can even do more than just RSS, such as importing images from flickr.

I am creating a tag stream of stackoverflow tags . You can list your tags in a text field and combine them into one channel with all unique messages. It skips the characters '#' and '+' for you.

Alternatively, you can use the rss feed channel by adding your HTML encoded tags separated by '+' s:

 http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=uP22vN923RG_c71O1ZzWFw&_render=rss&tags=.net+c%23+powershell

Unfortunatley, however, does seem to strip the content of the messages. The content is displayed in the debug view, but the output contains only the message header.

[Thanks to everyone for offering Yahoo Pipes ! I heard about this before, but have never tried it yet: -]

Here's an article on Combining multiple RSS feeds into one with Yahoo! Pipes + FeedBurner . Another option is Feed Rinse , but they have a paid version as well as a free version.

Extras: I heard well about AideRss

SimplePie is a PHP library that supports combining RSS feeds into one combined feed. I do not believe that it checks out of the box, but it seemed trivial to write a small function to remove duplicate content through their GUIDs.

In the last podcast, Jeff and Joel talked about RSS feeds for tags, and Joel noted that there is only the current ability to do AND on tags, not OR.

Jeff suggested that this would be included at some point in the future.

I think you should request this on uservoice or vote for it if it already exists.
