Latitude / Longitude Conversion in Alberta 10 TM Projection

I need to convert the latitude / longitude coordinates to the Easting / Northing coordinates in the Alberta 10 TM projection.

The 10TM projection is similar to UTM, but it is a common projection for Alberta, Canada. I think (with some effort), I could encode it myself, but I would not want to reinvent the wheel if it has already been done.

Grab PROJ.4 Map projection library - an open source library.

Suggested options for 10TM:

+ proj = tmerc + lon_0 = -115 + k_0 = 0.9992 + x_0 = 500000 + datum = NAD27

According to this post you may need:

change ellps to GRS80 if your 10TM data is referenced by NAD83 data (instead of NAD27 / clrk66). You may also need to change the false north (y_0) to be -5000000 if your 10TM coordinates for Alberta are less than 5,000,000 (standard "AltaLIS").

I must mention that proj.4 is a library that can be obtained for any transformation of a geographic coordinate system. There are almost no transformations that he cannot do.

I also recommend reading John Snyder's Map Projections-A Working Manual (Paperback) if you do such things .. it's classic. :) (link fixed)

I used GDAL ( http://www.gdal.org ) to do this. It supports bindings for different languages.

For free GIS libraries, see here: http://www.freegis.org/database/?cat=12 . We hope you find something that suits your needs.

I would seriously consider using a third-party DLL to do this, and not the code itself.

I do not know the full information about the 10 TM projection, but I was working on a project that required a coordinate transformation between many different coordinate systems with a high degree of accuracy, including UTM and Lat / Long. We found that the math was too complicated.

Perhaps take a look at open source PROJ.4: http://trac.osgeo.org/proj/

They seem to support a huge conversion range, and therefore I hope that Alberta 10 TM will be considered.

Download the MapWindow Open Source GIS Application

Open the GIS Tools menu

And use the shapefile reprogramming tool. In the National Grids Canada section, you can select this projection in Alberta.

You can also use http://code.google.com/p/android-openmap-framework/ , which can convert Android location to LatLonPoint, UTMPoint or MGRSPoint.

You can insert your coordinate pairs in "Transformation of the coordinate system" - an online service where you can set the corresponding input and desired output coordinate systems. There are hundreds of coordinate systems - you can simply find the right coordinate system using any keyword. You can see the editable proj4 text definition for each coordinate system, so if you need to change any projection parameter, you can do it there. Or you can define your own projection ...
