How to get started with programming a game on Zune

My zune has just upgraded to 3.0 (I didn’t even understand that they are releasing something new!), And the update appeared with two games, but there are no games on the Zune market.

Where can I start, and what are the features of Zune in terms of games / applications?

Well, firstly, you have to download Microsoft XNA 3.0 CTP. Read the documentation that will explain the possibilities. But, from memory:

  • There is no 3d hardware acceleration (obviously, you can create a 3D software engine, and then make the result a 2d sprite, but ... Do not expect much in terms of performance;))
  • No XACT, you have to use the new sound API

Just upgrade, but note that XNA 3.0 has been released . It takes some flavor of Visual Studio 2008.

I downloaded it and encoded and deployed "hello world" to my Zune in no time. Very easy.

You should check out Rob Miles blog. He has several chapters of his book on his website. Great place to start.

I was hoping that someone here would have better resources, but since this seems to be a new area of development, here is one resource that appears to give all the steps for beginners to get started (too many assume that you already have Visual Studio etc.).

I am also interested in a deeper overview of the possibilities.
