Will Log4J 2.0 be released (and if so, when)?

It seems that v2 Log4j has been in development literally for several years. The Apache Log4J site no longer contains a roadmap, the developers mailing list seems almost entirely 1.2 (which is appreciated!), Using v1.3 is not recommended, and the 2.0 branch is listed as "experimental." Which believer to believe?

The development of Log4j for all practical purposes has stalled. Consider moving to logback, the log4j successor. Logback is conceptually similar to log4j, and if you like log4j you need to make a better log. It has many nice features and is well documented.

Disclosure: I am the founder of both the log4j and logback projects.

I was on the log4j lists earlier this year. The last thing I knew was that they were busy back-porting in 1.3 for branch 1.2.15. For several months I was there, I never heard anything about log4j v 2, so I assume that it is largely abandoned.

Well, then, I think, you already answered your question, the developers obviously stopped focusing on assembly 2.0 a long time ago and instead decided to continue the 1.x-code base.

And if you are on your mailing list, ask them the source of the problem.
