MouseWheel doesn't work when published movie has wmode = "transparent"?

I am experiencing a bug with a published flash movie. When I paste a movie into an HTML page (with SWFObject 2.1) and evaluate this wmode 'transparent' parameter value, all my functions based on the MouseWheel event stop working. The film is based on AS2. Is anyone familiar with this error?

There is a workaround in Adobe Developer Connection:

Mousewheel does not work for me in AS3 when I set wmode = transparent. In addition, my flash application is very weird and often happens with wmode = transparent.

In addition, it does not work at all on firefox under Linux ... A Flash application is always above everything.

I would not recommend using wmode = transparent if your application is not designed for a specific browser and you have done extensive testing.
