Open CSV file containing special characters in Excel

I have a system that exports a CSV file, and some of the lines contain special field characters, so the data looks like this:

Please specify the primary type of opportunity which you're proposing: └─ Please specify what type of sport: └─ What is this person's vocation? └── How long have they been in the industry?

However, when I open the file in excel, Excel distorts the characters of the field so that it looks like this:

Please specify the primary type of opportunity which you’re proposing: â""â"€ Please specify what type of sport: â""â"€ What is this person’s vocation? â""â"€â"€ How long have they been in the industry?

The file is saved as plain text on the user's hard drive, and I can open it in a text editor and see the characters well, so I know that this happens when Excel reads the data.

Any thoughts? How can I prevent this?

In the generated PHP CSV, I solved it with utf8_decode () for the respective columns.

Import the csv file as shown in the link below in Excel 2007. Choose the appropriate encoding, as a result, the expected data will be displayed, including special characters. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/microsoft-office/import-text-into-excel-2007/

excel is probably trying to open the file using the wrong encoding; try to open the file from Excel and select a different file encoding; these are probably Unicode characters, and Excel probably uses iso-8859-15 for import.

Choose UTF if possible
