Disadvantages, advantages, etc. Between ILMerge or ResolveAssembly for embedding assemblies?

Question

I currently know two methods for embedding assemblies in a single application file: ILMerge and using the ResolveAssembly event.

I would like to know if someone had more success one on top of the other.

Are there any drawbacks in using one of them (performance, security, ...)?

From my point of view, it seems that we should always combine all the "private" assemblies in the application, since it is cleaner when the application is considered as a whole.

Any thoughts?
