Google Latitude API

Google API is currently not available.

Does anyone know of plans to be proposed in the future?

If so, what social networking apps for this technology can you come up with?

I do not know any plans yet, but I would be very surprised if Google does not intend to take Latitude in the direction similar to the OAuth-enabled API provided by Yahoo Fire Eagle .

There are already dozens of good Fire Eagle-based apps that are likely to be duplicated on Latitude. Ideally, Latitude and Fire Eagle can agree to speak the same protocol, at least for the most common tasks, such as updates and location requests. In this way, client applications can be written to work with one or both, and users can choose where they would like to store location data.

There is currently a (primitive) API for Google Latitude; see links below

You can get a URL that gives you (in JSON) the location (latitude and longitude) of the specified user.
