Should I use GeoDjango to display the floor plan?

I want to create a map of the plan of the internal space, which has areas that can be clicked. My first thought was to explore GeoDjango since its inception for Django. But given the dependencies, the learning curve, and the overall complexity, I am worried that maybe I'm trying to lure a fly with a bazooka.

Should I use GeoDjango for this or just store whole lists in a database field?

EDIT: The floor plan will be quite simple; assembly of walls and workstations with the ability to determine regions for how much space a workstation takes, which allows you to define offices, as well as layouts of an open plan.

I would say that using GeoDjango for this purpose is certainly far too great.

It can be implemented simply with an image map, or Canvas / SVG or Flash for additional pretty dots :)

IMHO using GeoDjango for floor plan is a good idea. But if your data does not change much, and the amount of data (rooms, areas, workstation, ...) is small, you may not need a database and a full GeoDjango stack.

A simpler solution would be to use OpenLayers directly with the image of the plan a (possibly scanned) as the background layer. OpenLayers also allows you to define the region and points (markers) that handle mouse or click events.

How often does the floor plan change? From your description, a simple image with an image is enough.

One of the good motivations for using GeoDjango could be:

the access to the geographical cooridinates backend,

and you will not only create beautiful images with arbitrary scale, but objects that will be geo-oriented , which is important if you plan to use the created plan for indoor navigation .

I will consider the strong use of GeoDjango and some OpenLayers with support for GeoJSON.
