The average load value attempts to measure the number of active processes at any time. As a measure of CPU utilization, the average load value is simplified, poorly defined, but far from useless. Average values โโof average load usually mean that the system is used to a large extent and the response time is correspondingly slow. What is high? ... Ideally, you would like the average load to be under, say, 3, ... Ultimately, โhighโ means high enough so you don't need uptime to let you know that the system is overloaded.
When viewing the results of average load values, they are within the last 1, 5 and 15 minutes.
