Block selection in xterm

Is it possible to have a block (as in a "rectangular") choice in xterm?

If so, is it assigned by default to key / mouse bindings or does it need to be assigned separately?

Thanks :) Sorin

No, this is not possible in xterm .

You can use a terminal text editor such as Vim to make a choice. First you need to save the text in a file, and then edit it using a text editor. In Vim, press Control + V, then use the up and down arrow keys.

xterm does not have a select block

Some other common terminal applications do. For example: rxvt uses the Alt key. xfce4-terminal and gnome-terminal both make a block selection using the control key.

Some Windows Terminal applications use Alt as a key modifier. Examples MobaXterm and Putty.

I use xterm through putty - I find that block selection is possible. Just hold the ALT key while making your choice with the mouse - it will select the rectangular part as you would like!
