Change the icon in the DotNetNuke portal

I manage several DotNetNuke portals (as well as primary hosting). All portals have a default DNN icon in the address and when they are bookmarked. I want to have my own icon.

This is the icon on the left side of this: DNN icon
(source: dotnetnuke.com )

I tried to copy the favicon.ico default file to the root directory (where the web.config file is located). I deleted, I replaced, I restarted the browser, I bounced IIS. None of this works.

Has anyone encountered a solution to the smelly favicon problem in DNN?

You need to place an icon in each portal portal folder (Portals / 0 / favicon.ico). Make sure you remove the icon in the root directory of your website, as this (presumably) cancels any portal-specific icons and applies to all portals.

Times have changed in the world of DotNetNuke, as this question has been answered. Now, the icon is much easier to change.

Go to Site Settings under the Administrator menu and scroll down to Appearance . It should be possible to upload a new icon or use it on your site.

Favicons are notorious for the fact that the browser is very aggressively cached. Sometimes even clearing the cache doesn't even do the trick; it can drive you crazy. Clear cache, change update, etc. Etc.

Have you tried to clear your browser cache? Or try using the browser on another computer or just in another browser (FF vs. IE for isntance). Favicon will cache and drive you crazy when it really changes.

Another thing is to check if you have more than one portal running on your DNN instance. If you have more than one portal, you can make a different icon for each portal by placing the icon in the root of the portal and not the main web root.
