City State City Database

Question

I am looking for a good database of City, Country State

It does not have to be crazy detailed, that which has a good coverage of cities and their respective state, countries in the world will do it for me.

Yahoo! license Creative Commons for its geodata, including unique identifiers (Where-On-Earth identifiers) and hierarchical information for millions of places on earth, including cities, metropolitan areas, states, countries and other types of divisions. Most of this data is downloadable and they also have an easy to use API .

Although, as an alternative, have you considered using the Google Maps API? It is free and they provide good instructions for integrating your application.

there is a city of the world a CSV dataset compiled with the USGS GNIS Server (US) and the US NGA GNS Server (not for the USA), which I posted in the public domain. Below is the link and layout metadata.

Column 1: country code ISO 3166-1 alpha-2.
Column 2: US FIPS 5-2 Level 1 administrative division code (e.g. state / province).
Column 3: NGA Description of the GNS (DSG) function.
Column 4: Unique Identifier for the NGA GNS Function (UFI).
Column 5: ISO code 639-1 alpha-2/3 for the language corresponding to the function name.
Column 6: Script language (e.g. Latin, Arabic, Chinese, etc.), Corresponding to the name of the function.
Column 7: Function Name.
Column 8: Latitude coordinate of the centroid region.
Column 9: longitude coordinate of the center of gravity of the area.
