Does garbage collection work with the Go (gc) compiler?

I noticed that garbage collection is not yet implemented in gccgo.

Does the standard Go (gc) compiler support garbage collection?

gccgo has its own runtime, the plan is to use a single runtime shared by both gc and gccgo.

In addition, the current garbage collector in gc is quite simple, a parallel and much faster implementation is being developed based on research by IBM and is likely to be used by both gccgo and gc.
