Error installing Apache (libaprutil)

Question

When installing apache, I received the following error message:

libtool: install: error: cannot install `libaprutil-1.la 'in a directory that does not end with / some _directory

What's wrong?

NOTE. I already figured out this problem, but since Google search didn’t help much, I wrote this question in the hope of helping others and, possibly, myself, with this error in the future.

obviously ./config --prefix=/mydir not configured correctly the first time. Restarting the failed apache make can be problematic. First you need to do make clean , and then try again with the correct --prefix
