@ font-face support for major email clients?

Do major web and desktop email clients support the font feature? It would be logical to assume that they do not think that I will ask anyway. Has anyone checked?

font-face email support

Campaign monitoring and typesetting did some research on this topic and found support very rarely. Only iPhone and Apple Mail work at all.

This is sad, since as of January 2010, all major browsers support the font.

  • Safari 3.1
  • IE - all versions
  • Firefox 3.6
  • Chrome 4
  • Opera 10

Do not use the font-face function. Most likely, this will not work for enough customers to be a pain.

Since my curiosity was so great, I went and ran a test with 17 different email clients (amen Litmus App) and, as you might guess, almost none of them support @ font-face. Of all 17 clients, only Apple Mail 3 and Apple Mail 4 really supported it (amen Mac), and AOL Mail took as much time as I did not even bother to wait, a smaller part.

So the conclusion is that if 2020 is shown in the year number indicated on the calendar, don't worry about using @ font-face in your email newsletters, stick with Impact and Georgia.
