Getting Cabal to work with GHC 6.12.1

I installed the latest GHC package (6.12.1) on OS X, but I cannot get Cabal to work. I uninstalled the previous version that worked with GHC 6.10 and tried to reinstall from scratch. The latest version of Cabal available for download is 1.6.0.2. However, when I try to build this, I get the following error:

Configuring Cabal-1.6.0.2... Setup: failed to parse output of 'ghc-pkg dump'

From what I found, it looks like the Cabal version is too old for the GHC version. Is there a way to get Cabal to work with GHC 6.12.1?

EDIT: To be clear, I'm trying to configure cabal-install .

GHC 6.12.1 comes with Cabal 1.8.0.2, you do not need to install anything extra to get it.

Just install GHC 6.12.1 and enter ghc-pkg list Cabal and you will see.

Have you downloaded cabal-install-0.8.0 from Hackage? Bootstrap.sh should work correctly with ghc-6.12.1.

I heard that someone from the #Haskell IRC channel on Freenode said that they had Cabal-install functionality from repositories. If you do not want to wait for the next version, you can get it from the darcs repository.
